Saturday Morning Rain is Falling~

not really no actually just spitting D:

went markets this morning with dad :33
saw Bill's parents but didn't say hi coz I'm scared they don't remember me and be like wtf some random asian chick.

let's talk about the curry puff store!

At the West End Saturday Morning Riverside Markets (not actually sure what its called) there's a little store that sells curry puffs for $1 each :3 It's situated at the "food court" near the fig tree and is run by a Taiwanese couple. They sell 3 things, curry puffs, spring rolls and pumpkin puffs. While most people visit for their curry puffs and spring rolls I think the best thing there is actually the pumpkin puffs. It's unique to their store and filled with deliciously sweet jap pumpkin and their homemade wheat pastry goes really well with it >w< a must try for all pumpkin lovers out there <3 Their curry puff is nice, but is a bit more on the sweet/mild side, something kids will like :3 and their spring rolls taste so taiwanese! If you miss taiwan go get some of their spring rolls xD instead of the traditional stuff viets put in it, they have replaced it with cabbage, carrots and taiwanese rice vermicelli and reminds me of taiwan heaps ;w; but yea if you ever go West End markets, go try their puffs! The couple is very welcoming and friendly and sometimes their daughter helps out there too :3 she looks exactly like her mother! xD

I also went to the optometrist to get my eyes checked...they got worse ;w;

PABLO FOR LUNCHHHHHH because last night I saw their amazing looking Bacon Sandwich (their weekend special) *drools* so I was like must go tomro! otherwise it'll sell out Sunday which is usually what happens with all their weekend specials. When we got there....I stared at the mirror on which their write their specials with this silly grin on my face and the owner saw me and said "I'm really sorry, but the weekend special has been sold out" and I'm just like ;A; whatttt -moment of devastation- we went there at 12.30 too ;^; so sad but anyways they always have yum stuff so I ordered the open melting sandwich of cured beef instead. it was gooddd owo and looked like this:

Pablo is a favourite of mine and tooo amazing to cover in this post so I shall do another post dedicated to it another day xDD

Currently making tonkotsu ramen soup base =w= I hope it turns out gooooood xD 4 more hrs to go~

My phone

Suddenly felt like shouting out to the rest of the world out there a note of appreciation for a specific feature of my phone. My favourite aspect of my Iphone is not the fact that it's smart nor the ability to use the internet but the small button on the side that allows you to easily switch between silent mode and not-on-silent mode. I think that it's a revolutionary design in phones :') life became so much easier and convenient :'D hahaha I am easily satisfied.

on another note, I still haven't gotten around to changing my blog template.... my list of to-do's just keeps getting longer :c

I also need a make-over. Everything looks horrible on me :'c

Recount of what has happened recently:

I watched Now You See Me :D:D:D finally! Twas a good movie :')
I also watched Forrest Gump. It's a very good movie that I recommend to everyone, it's so simple yet very captivating. Then the day after that I watched Silver Linings Playbook and lemme just say, it's not my type of movie :c I couldn't stand the fact that just about everyone in the movie had a mental condition and the whole movie felt like it was in slow-mo ;OO the only part I liked was the final dance performance :c
then~~~ I went to watch Mortal Instruments: City of Bones with penwennn :D the movie did not reflect the book at all :c they completely butchered Valentine and most of the characters were different to what I imagined they'd look like :c except for maybe Jace and Clary. Otherwise I think if you watch the movie without reading the book, it's actually a decent one ~

T_T

I am so sad T_T

on another note, I think I want to change my blog template...hopefully I'll get around to it soon D:
and I should also do a holidays summary post ;O

Oishii sushi not so oishii?

This is a post that was meant to be written on sunday 20/7/13 but I was lazy and unorganised :c

In the morning me+ family did usual sunday routine, breakfast at a cafe, we decided to go to Pablo, my favourite cafe :3 hopefully sometime in the near future I will do a review/ talk about Pablo and other cafes I often go to in detail.

After breakfast, we went to James street markets so I can go get marshmallow fluff from a shop called The Nut Market there. In the shop there were only 3 jars left and the best before date printed clearly on the lid said, 7/6/13 on all 3, so taking a jar to the counter, we asked the lady if they had any in stock that wasn't overdue.
To this, the lady replied: You see, it says best before, not use by so technically you can still eat it and it's still saleable.
Her attitude was so bad it put me into a pretty bad mood :/ It's a jar of uncooked egg whites thats been overdue for almost 2 months, and you're telling me its edible? >:/

When we got home, we put away groceries etc. then I proceeded to teach Shelly how to make macarons. She's seen me make them heaps of times already, but had never tried on her on so this time, I talked her through the steps and watched her make them, checking the consistency when needed. We did two batches, lychee and matcha green tea. Unfortunately, our can of lychee had a more natural taste  (as opposed to the heavy artificial-y taste asian lychee cans typically have) so the flavour didn't really come out when we used it to make the fillings for the macarons.

anyways by the time everything was done it was around 5 ish and so we headed out to sunnybank/ pinelands to meet Shelly's 2 friends. My parents decided to eat at Endless Noodles while me, lily, shelly and her friends went to Oishii sushi as planned. It's been years since I last went to Oishii sushi, I think the last time I had it was when Endless Noodles still allowed BYO aggesss ago :L I really liked it back then, the taste was good and their sushi combinations were unique. However, on this visit I was really disappointed :c

Disclaimer: I have been said as extremely picky about food and known as an extremely harsh critique so don't read the below if you are a big fan of Oishii, you may be offended. Also, take everything I say with a grain of salt, because food is pretty subjective, everyone has different tastes and likes different things O:

so me, Shelly, Lily ordered the Red dragon (middle one) , Himawari (yellow side one) and Unatama don (below)

Taste: 2/5
I was really disappointed with the Himawari roll we got this time. This used to be one of my favourite sushi fusion rolls but the roll we got this time was bland and there was no "avocado paste" in sight, even though according to the menu, there is supposed to be. The Red dragon was actually one of the worst avocado + salmon sushi combination rolls I have had, but I blame this on the soy sauce the restaurant provides. There was no flavour to it, just saltiness. You really need a good soy sauce to bring out the flavours of the classic avo+ salmon combo I think. The Unatama don was a serious disappointment! The menu showed a beautiful roll with vibrant colours of many different vegetables, but the roll we received was exceptionally dull with comparison. Instead of the many vegies I saw, we got some vegetables drenched in mayo in our roll :ccc The food was nice but the price isn't adequate. I'm not very happy with paying $7 for 3 pieces of mayo drenched sushi....In general, I think that the price was too high for the quality and taste Oishii sushi offered, with the Red dragon being $11.50 for 6 pieces (the photo showed 12 because Shelly's friends also ordered one) and the Himawari being $10.50 for 8 pieces...we paid $30 and none of us were satisfied. I was only 4/10 full even after eating most of the sushi we ordered. Lily actually left halfway to go to Endless Noodles to eat with my parents instead :/ The waiting time for food was also very long and inconsistent, we had one of our dishes come within the first 10 mins of ordering but then we had to wait for another 20-30 mins for another dish to come.

Service: 1/5
The service was extremely bad considering the price of food they sell at Oishii. They were very understaffed and we had to call 2~3 times before being waited on to order and 3~4 times more to get water. There were only 2 staff that could speak English and the restaurant was so busy it was near impossible to get someone to serve us. Shelly's friend ordered a tempura prawn hand roll, after waiting for around 40-50 mins for it, it finally came. However, there was cucumber in it and Shelly's friend was allergic to cucumber. In the past few times he ordered that handroll, they never put cucumber in it so He tried to get the attention of a waiter. We had to wait another 10 mins for this before a lady came, we explained the situation to her but she looked like she didn't understand, she just took the plate away. I saw her hand the roll back to one of the chefs and after some talking she left. I then see the chef proceed to unwrap the roll, take the cucumber out and roll it back up. It was then left there for another 5 mins before another waiter brought it to our table. We told them that the friend was seriously allergic to cucumber, so they couldn't just take it out. Considering how expensive a hand roll is, they shouldn't have just taken it out anyways even if the allergy wasn't that serious. During the time for everything to be handled properly the seaweed wrapping the hand roll was already limp and soft, a good restaurant with good service would have made another one. So the waiter took it back to the kitchen again. 10 mins later a guy comes to clear our table and we tell them that we are stilling waiting on an order so he leaves. Another 10 mins later, a different waiter comes to clear out table and we tell them we are still waiting on a hand roll and that was when someone actually went to the kitchen to check on it. The kitchen had just left it and forgotten about our order.

Overall: 2/5
Oishii sushi has greatly disappointed me this time and I doubt I will be back anytime soon if I even ever go back. The food was nice but isn't worth the money and the service is definitely something they need to improve on. There are better sushi places in Brisbane, that are more affordable, with friendlier service. Also, if you do decide to dine at Oishii, order sushi instead of mains. One of Shelly's friends ordered the omelette yakisoba, the serving size was incredibly small, I'd have to eat 4 of those if I wanted to be satisfied. You're better off ordering a plate of sushi for the same price.
